Wednesday’s Word: Quer-Agony

Querying is not just hard…it is queragony. It’s the waiting, you see. Waiting is the worst. You send out the equivalent of a love note, do you like me? Yes or No? And now you must wait for a response.

Days feel like years, hours like months, and the minutes tick by with excruciating sluggishness.

Sometimes you feel like you are running at a slightly faster pace than the rest of the world and waiting for them to catch up. Your brain is performing an Irish River Dance and everyone else’s is doing a Country Two-Step. Although…a full pot of coffee with a chocolate dipped granola bar chaser doesn’t help.

You knew when you started that writing was not a quick endeavor, it’s a slow process and finishing a manuscript is only the beginning. Waiting is a major part of it and the only way to fight time is to fill it as best you can. Start on something new; take a vacation, read good books, or…blog about it.

Beat queragony…don’t let it beat you.

And that, my friends, is the Word.

  2. I feel bad commenting on this post, given my flukey, fast querying process. But hang in there. The whole process is slow (the rest has been for me). It sucks, but it's the path we've chosen. Le sigh.

  3. You are the best at making up words! I haven't queried yet but I've heard all the horror stories, yes the queragony. We must beat it. Great post!

  4. Love the word queragony. I haven't queried in 9 or 10 months, but I will get back out there and query once I finish this MG novel. Not looking forward to it.

  5. Thank you for the diagnosis! Why, I have been suffering from a severe case of queragony and I feel SO much better now that I have a name for it. *whew* I'm waiting. Word on the street is I'll be waiting next week and the week after. I'm not sure I can wait forever but I think I can wait until mid summer. After that, I think my case will progress to quermisery.

  6. I'm not at query stage yet (and probably won't be for another year. But I am deadly afraid it. Good luck to those who are already on that boat!

  7. I am possibly the most impatient person ever. So... hmmm... when it's my time to wait... it's going to suck! And probably kill me. LOL.
