I have a pretty famous cousin. I have never met him. My grandmother had 14 kids and he is just one of the many cousins scattered across the US that I haven't met. Also, I am pretty sure he dodges all but immediate family for financial reasons.
When we were kids, my brothers, sisters and I (large family) would tell our friends and they never believed us. He was more famous then. It was very frustrating so we stopped talking about it. Now when we do share that information with anyone, they stare at us for a moment and say 'Is that the guy that was in........." Yeah it was.
My brother went to school with a kid who was a direct descendant of Jesse James. That is the height of coolness. My current boss has a niece that was on Law and Order for an entire season. We are outdone at every turn.
My mother did see my cousin last year at a memorial service for another family member. Large families are usually brought together by death. Morbid, but true. He was very nice to her. Her and my dad used to babysit him when they were dating.
I asked her what she thought. She said he was shorter that she expected......and my husband was much cuter than him.
Yesssss.
That made me smile. Isn't is just like that i life? Outdone at every turn?
ReplyDeleteIt is!ha But I'm not upset at all. Its funny and just shows what a small world it is. Being related to someone famous really means nothing at all. Although I would like to ask him if he knows Gerard Butler?hahha
ReplyDeleteFamilies...You gotta love it!
ReplyDeleteFamous people are still people. Sure they a lot more money than the rest of us, but they still are people. I have famous people in my family as well, Movie/TV people who think they are "it". Then one day they are nothing. The business does that to people. Sad but true. That's the nice thing about writers...once they write something it sticks around. People still want to be taken on your journey for the most part. Respect comes with age in this field. Unlike "Hollywood"...they tell you to go have some work done and hope and pray you'll get another chance.
Um...um...can I ask who it is? I guess I just did...=)
ReplyDeleteI'm not related to anyone famous. Although I did have a great uncle who was a bishop. I always thought that was neat.
J.J.: I totally agree with you on the Hollywood scene. I think its sad how it seems to destroy people. I don't think they have that same sense of community that writers feel with each other. And they are most certainly just people and no better than anyone else.
ReplyDeleteLisa: I really kicked around the idea of saying who it was and since I have absolutely NO relationship/contact with this person...I guess it couldn't hurt? It is Don Johnson. He did Miami Vice wayyy back in the day and more recently did Nash Bridges. I couldn't get into either one of those shows. Believe me the great uncle bishop is cooler.
Funny. I'm not related to anyone famous but my Dad used to do business with my most favorite basketball player of all time (I lost the autograph my Dad got for me though). I always wondered why my Pops didn't talk (brag) about it to people...turns out, he didn't think it needed to be mentioned. Celebrities are just people. I'm glad I learned that from him. Can't say I would act completely normal if I ran into Jennifer Aniston or Eric Bana at Barnes & Noble or something though.
ReplyDeleteRegina: I like how your dad thinks. I would not have blogged about this but it was just on my mind today. How we are all connected and how random and fleeting fame is. I will say though that if I ever met Stephen King I think I would faint...or possibly throw up. Something shameful would happen I know it.
ReplyDeleteLOL...Marsha! That's funny... Have you heard the "Kevin Bacon" thing? How everyone is linked together somehow by seven people. I might be getting that wrong. But it's something like that.
ReplyDeleteYes I have! Its six degrees of seperation, I love it!ha I can't remember if that means we are all connected or we are all connected to Kevin Bacon.ha
ReplyDeleteI'm a descendant of Jesse James. My mom is from Missouri and my grandmother's grandmother's something or other was related. I don't know...my mom knows it better than I do. But the James side of our family used to have a reunion every year and my grandmother went up until her death.
ReplyDeleteStephanie, that is sooo cool! My dad's family are from Missouri and thats where our family reunions are held. You know...we could all be related...maybe through Kevin Bacon?
ReplyDeleteOkay this is a great one...I have one relative on my Mom's side and one on my Dad's side that came over on the Mayflower...Now that's crazy!
