Are you a Writer?

What makes you believe that you are a writer? Do you think that you won't be one until that day that you are finally published? If you sit in front of a computer and agonize over story lines, pull your hair out over too many adverbs, and love the characters that you have breathed life into, then you are a writer.

It does not matter if you are ever published or if you self publish...or if you hide your work under your bed and your dog eats half of it and you find it years later and can't remember how it ends.
You are a writer!

Say it proud. Say it often. If your friends look at you and roll their eyes...get new friends. If your family looks at you like you're nuts....you can always lick the lunch meat before you put it on their sandwich...but don't get caught. That's hard to explain.
You are a writer!

If you don't believe me....read Janet Reid's post today. http://jetreidliterary.blogspot.com/2009/10/less-than-zero.html

  4. I'm a writer. I'm blessed to have a very supportive family and some very supportive and encouraging friends.

But you know what happens as soon as you admit to being a writer?...all your friends/family say: "Oh I wrote something once, but it wasn't very good." Or "I thought about writing, but I haven't the time."

Yeah, I have loads of time...no interruptions here while I stare at the blinking cursor trying to figure out what to write next. LOL, I have a 2 1/2 year old...I have to snatch time...but I figure it out and anyone who loves this craft does, too.

By the way...published author Lynn Kurland has 3 children (and wrote at least one novel, and published it while dealing with an infant!)

  5. I'm an aspiring writer...I'm not at all wanting to publish myself. If I can't get an agent and sell my book I'll start on something else.

  6. I think if we really want it, we can do this no matter what the complications are. I am sleep deprived and caffeinated up to my eyeballs most of the time.lol There a lot of people who think they could write if they tried...its those of us that DO try that counts. I am not going to self publish either, not knocking those that decide to do that at all but its not what I want.

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
