Favorite Childhood Book

This is in honor of Stephanie Faris' Group Blog Thursday:http://stephie5741.blogspot.com/.

Thank you, Stephanie! You totally stole my favorite book Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews.
I was going to have four children and name them Christopher, Cathy, Carrie, and Cory. Instead, I had one. I named him Alexander (means great leader...Momma wants to live in the White House).

My 2nd favorite book is not as well known. It is called The Mirror by Marlys Millhiser. It tells of a young girl, about to be married, who is transported back in time through a mirror into the body of her grandmother who was the same age and about to be married herself. Most of the book is dedicated to the story of the granddaughter, learning to live in the past, but it does flash forward to tell of the grandmother and the problems she faces living in what to her is the future. It is a wonderful book. I remembered the story a few years ago and could not stop thinking about it.

Thanks to the Internet and a call to my hometown library, I found a used copy of this book and bought it immediately. Its been out of print for some time. The copyright is dated 1978. My copy does not look used, it looks loved and now occupies a special place in my bookshelf.

What was your favorite childhood story?

  1. That Mirror book sounds fascinating. I love supernatural-ish stories. I'm seeing a lot of V.C. Andrews fans today. It's funny, too, because while reading Stephen King's On Writing he made a snide comment about her lack of talent. Maybe that was why she was fresh on my mind.

  2. I know! I remember he said that too. I try not to hold those things against him and tell myself everyone has a right to their own opinion. But still!

  3. I can't remember exactly what my favorite novel was as a child...I think I had several based on what I remember. Ones like "A Little Princess" and "The Secret Garden" Beverly Cleary's "Fifteen" (I've read that so many times I lost count...I have a copy even).

Others I can't remember...could be because I haven't finished my coffee, yet. LOL but those did come to mind.

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
