Friday Flashbacks

The year is 1500.  It is the first year of the 15th century.

By the end of this century, only about 35,000 books will have been published and printed.  That means in the WORLD.

This guy was the hot topic of the day:

Leonardo da Vinci.  This is actually a self portrait.  Notice the hairstyles of the day.  The more the merrier seems the only style option here.
But surely you did not think he was just a painter who brushed his hair all day?
He was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, botanist and writer.  He used a technique where he wrote backwards with his left hand so he wouldn't smear his writing.  Who does that?  It's hard enough to write the normal way!  This guy did not know the meaning of normal, or spare time, or relaxing.

He did this in his spare time:

You know, just for fun.  He was a genius on so many levels it boggles the mind.

This was his girlfriend:

Again with the hair.

Next time you think you're busy, give thanks that you aren't Leo...and you have a razor.

  1. The guy really was amazing. And then there was that code he developed.

Seriously, wonder what Leo would have thought of Dan Brown anyway?

  2. LDV, a true genius. I don't think they troubled themselves over hair back then. No TV ads telling them, they must be hairless and scentless or scented:)

And the stats on the number of books published. Mind-boggling.

Thanks for another great Friday Flashbacks!

  3. Boy, how cool would it have been to hang out with someone like that? I suppose he'd want to paint your picture and land you in a museum for the next several hundreds of years. The details on the medical picture is staggering. Fascinating man.

  4. He was a genius. Wouldn't it be neat to be able to go back in time and have a conversation with him?

    Have a great weekend!

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
