Tuesday Take: Weight

I am toying with the idea of making Tuesdays the day I give you my random ‘take’ on certain issues. No, that is not what I do every day anyway. I heard you whispering that.

Today I am going to give you my take on weight. Believe me; I know a lot about it. I was the only ‘fluffy’ child in a family of six, and the youngest. My siblings were anorexic finicky eaters that constantly amazed me with how little food they ate and still survived. Is it no wonder I was the bossy one? They were too weak to fight me.

Don't be fooled...I used my ponytails of cuteness for pure evil.

People today are completely obsessed with weight, from eight to eighty. Everything is done to an extreme level.
This is not healthy:

But neither is this:

In an effort to counteract the effects of savagely skinny role models, are we now saying it’s ok to be obese? You should love your body no matter what?
What bothers me is, are we saying that because we believe it…or because we are too lazy to do anything about it?  When did it become ok to just accept things and not strive to make them better?  How much you weigh should not be an obsession but it should be a concern.

The main focus should not be on how much you weigh but whether or not you are healthy.
Remember when these kids were who we wanted to be?

Ok, some of us still want to be them. But see how great they look? They were kickin’ vampire/demon butt every day and they still look like an ad for a Got Milk commercial.

I come from a long line of people who eat their feelings.  I’m also from the South.  We believe if it isn’t battered and deep fried in bacon grease, then what is the point of eating it? I’ve been extremely thin and I’ve also been a little heavy (ok, a lot heavy but three years to lose weight after you have a baby is perfectly acceptable!!!).

I realize now that I can eat chocolate donuts…just not the entire box. I can drink a soda…just not a six pack a day. Not everything has to be done to such an extreme. Use a little common sense and most importantly, be healthy.  Remember:

1) Water is the only magic diet supplement there is.
2) If you have real problems maintaining a healthy weight, see a doctor.

With that said, I don't believe that your weight should ever define you. It is only one small facet of  the awesomeness that is you.  At least...thats my take on it.

Christina Hendricks was just voted best-looking woman in Esquire. It's great cuz she's neither size 0 or size 30!

If your bones stick out while you're standing still, you're too skinny. And if it's near impossible to tell you have bones, you're too fat! :)

  3. Crap. You had to post this AFTER I had pizza for dinner and a huge sub for lunch. Ouch.
