Friday Flashback: Movies

Great movies you may have missed in the last decade.

Dreamcatcher

This movie is based on a novel by Stephen King and includes an all star cast that you will easily recognize. This story does have supernatural elements but I think it only serves to underscore the main story of friendship and loyalty.

A History of Violence

Don’t mess with my man Viggo, he might go all old school LOTR on your ass. He plays a different sort of character in this movie and at times it is hard to tell whether he is the good guy or the bad guy. Maybe a little of both?

O’ Brother Where Art Thou?

If you didn’t love George Clooney before this, you have no chance after. He shows that he can juggle comedy as well as girlfriends. This show has great music, hilarious dialogue, and you can watch it again and again and notice new details each time.

Juno
This is the most important teenage film of the decade. If you write YA, you must watch this movie. The dialogue and slang are some of the best and if teenagers didn’t speak that way before, they did after watching this. It was a trendsetter.

Napoleon Dynamite

This is a whole other kind of teenage movie. You might not recognize any of the characters as people you could have gone to school with, unless your school was ‘special’ and you rode a very short bus. This may be the funniest teenage movie I have ever seen…and I’d totally vote for Pedro.

Make this a flashback weekend and catch these movies!!

  2. I've only seen Napolean Dynamite. I'm usually the last to see any movie with the exception of Iron Man 2 the fam and I saw last night. Very fun but a bit on the noisy side. ;)

  4. I've never seen Juno. Every once in a while, I remember, and tell myself I need to rent it, but I haven't done that yet :(

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
