Friday Flashback

Mothers.

The mother of decades ago is not so different from the mother of today…except in appearance.

We all want the best for their children, want to see them succeed and be happy above all. And they don’t care what we look like.

Being a mother may be the hardest job you will ever have. More often than not it’s entirely thankless…at least for a few years. There isn’t a paycheck, or pats on the back, or even a guaranteed retirement plan. It is 24 hours, 7 days a week, and your reward comes in smiles, hugs, and if you’re really lucky, a love so deep it could fill an ocean and the force of it could change the world.

I want to say thank you to all the mothers today, the ones that sacrifice in silence, lose sleep with worry, and love without conditions. But I especially want to thank one mother, who means everything to me.

Thank you for helping me that time I’d hurt my hand and couldn’t button my own jeans.
Thank you for not getting upset when I cried and yelled because it took you so long.
Thank you for sleeping with me when I had a nightmare even though I was seventeen.
Thank you for staying up with me three days straight when your grandson was being born.

Thank you for crying over every Mother’s Day card I send because you love me so much.

You are the one who always listens to my wildest dreams with amazement, who gets excited over every one of my accomplishments as if they were your own, who makes me laugh when I want to cry, and who makes me feel loved every single day of my life. You are beautiful down to your soul.

Thank you, Momma. I love you.

  5. Oh, I love this post. I hope my kids talk about me like this someday. I mean, they'll eventually forget that I spend so much time on the computer, right?

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
