Friday Flashback: Teenagers

That group of humanity that teeters on the very cusp of adulthood. Their moods change like quicksilver, flaring hotly with anger, or flowing cool and sweet like summer rain.

They have forgiven everyone for lying about Santa Claus…but they haven’t forgotten. They realize they may never be a rock star or even President, but they still dream.

You can tell them that their problems now will seem so small in a few years and they may smile and nod their heads…but they don’t believe you.

Teen Evolution:

1950's

1960's

1970's

1980's

1990's

2000's

Today

Today’s teenager is smart, cynical, a technology expert, and probably more politically savvy than you are. Do not underestimate them because they still sleep with a stuffed bear and take an hour to fix their hair.
They will rule the world someday.

  1. I love this! This is why I tend to write YA. I just think they are way cooler than me. And I like to write about the cool. =)_

  4. Haha. Great post! The times change, the fashions change but teenagers don't really change.

  5. OK, that kid from the fifties is kind of cute. I don't like anyone again until the 80's. What does that say about me? Hmm....

  6. I don't think I'd ever tell a teen that their problems were small. I have most of the same problems today. All that's changed is adding finances to the mix.

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
