Friday Flashbacks: Daydreams

I daydreamed all the time as a child…and now as an adult. Show me a writer who doesn’t! When my fictional, extremely sophisticated, and artistic parents (who happened to be disgustingly wealthy) never showed up to rescue me from those people they left me with, I moved on. One of my favorite daydreams was what I like to call Celebrity Conversations. These are the conversations I would have with the people I admired.

My favorite is Stephen King, and over the years we have really bonded but there is another that I have many discussions with. We talk of current events, international incidents, and of course, the awesomeness that is me. He’s like a dog with a bone when it comes to that!
Moments with Matt (Lauer):
ML: “Marsha, welcome to the Today Show. I may call you Marsha?”
Me, waving my hand and smiling indulgently: “Of course, Matt, and thank you. It’s a pleasure to be here.”
ML: “I have to say I’ve looked forward to this for some time. You’re a bestselling author; every book you’ve written seems to turn to gold. There is also some rumors circulating that you might collaborate with Stephen King and J.K. Rowling?”
Me: “Oh, I don’t know about that. We hang out from time to time. Row had that major writer’s block for a while; I mean how do you top Harry Potter for Pete’s sake? So she bounces ideas off me from time to time. And Steve…well, he just needs someone to be supportive. When you think about monsters all day it helps to talk to someone who keeps it real, ya know?”
ML: “Sure, we certainly all need that. You do write riveting, life changing novels. Is that what you intended? And how do you feel about that?”
Me: “Well, I feel pretty great about it actually. I wanted to make a contribution to the world with my stories, and I feel I’ve done that.”
ML: “Who or what do you credit your success to?”
Me: “My family definitely, my agent who is incredible, and of course a blog community that is made up of the most awesome, supportive people I have ever met.”
ML: “Really? How did they help with your success?”
Me: “By encouraging me to continue! By offering advice and friendship and expecting nothing in return. Every success we achieved, we did it together. We proved it is possible to obtain your dreams if you never give up and I could not have done it without them.”
ML: “Where does Marsha Sigman go from here? What is your next step?”
Me: “To continue of course! For as long as possible, writing is my life and I have a lot to say.” I laugh modestly.

Fade to black…

This makes me happy. So what did you daydream about when you were a child? And if you could have a conversation with anyone, who would it be?

  1. Great post! Loved the interview:)

My daydreams as a child involved all the fun, fast, exciting careers I was going to have. Cowboy, race car driver, astronaut, fighter pilot, toreador. How I ended up sitting on my ass in front of a computer, I'll never know. My inner child must be screaming.

I think Raymond Chandler or Alfred Hitchcock. Of course them being dead and all,it might be difficult.

  2. Wow... you have very involved daydreams. LOL. I'm sure I daydreamed about something or someone when I was a child, but it was probably about boys and of no importance. haha.

  3. Part of what I love about writing now is that I get to day dream about my characters in situations, but when I was young, I used to daydream about boys I had crushes on...ha!

  4. Ahh, my twin spirit! I've had numerous celeb conversations in my daydreams. It takes the edge of dishes and people screaming to be fed.

  6. Dang, I love your posts. Hee! Please send Matt, Stephen, and Row my best. It will mean a lot to them. ("Dawn who?!") I used to daydream about horses and dolphins. And boys.

There's an award for you at my blog. :)

  7. Usually whatever boy I was crushing on at the time. I think I enjoyed the crush part of it most, because I could make up stories in my head about how we'd get together. Once we got together, the fun was over!

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
