“Rise and rise again, until lambs become lions.”-Russell Crowe, Robin Hood 2010
No one seems to know the exact origin of this quote but its message is undeniable. Do not give up, keep fighting, and the day will come when you prevail.
It seems appropriate to remember this with the anniversary of our independence happening in a few days. We rose up and continued to rise until we prevailed as a nation. Today, despite our problems, we are a country who values and celebrates a person’s ability to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. Who among us doesn’t love a good underdog story?
Writers must remind themselves of this all the time, especially those of us who are still in the process of becoming published. The knowledge that one day our stories could change a life, make a difference even if it’s only to lift someone’s spirits for a short while…inspires us to never give up, to rise and rise again.
Because we know in those brief, glorious moments…we will become the lion.
Me, writer, hear me ROAR!!! lol
ReplyDeleteHappy independence day to all you guys in the US!
Very inspiring quote - and it's true, we sure do love us some underdog stories.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE this. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day, Marsha; hope it's a great one!
I am so not a lion today. Just realized a full I sent to an agent was a working copy that still had revision notes embedded in it. Yeah, there's a reason some of us are not published. :P
ReplyDeleteTomorrow I'll work on my roar again. :)
I think that lamb better play very friendly. Share the fireworks. Take the smaller hotdog, and the drink without ice. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's Canada Day up here! You can chug some maple syrup and eat some beer-filled donuts for us. We're all about the health up here, you know.
Happy early 4th! The 4th, up here, is mostly sort of a Grand Hangover Day, sort of like a nationwide headache.
I sense a lioness in you.
ReplyDeleteGo get 'em, gurl. And have a great holiday!
I feel my inner writer lioness waking up ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right. Writers should never give up!
I already know you're a lion - and I can't wait to hear you roar!
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day!
Marsha, I love this post--just what I needed to hear today! All the best to you and yours this 4th! :)
