I took a vacation day, mainly because I have so many left and if I don't use them I lose them. What a great opportunity to write! I thought this as I rolled out of bed at 7:30 this morning. It is now 5:30 in the evening and I have spent the entire day reading blogs, posting comments, and generally putting off working on my new manuscript idea.
I can be lazy. I know, it's shocking. I have realized something though. If I only have a few hours to write at the end of a busy day, then I'm motivated. If I have a long stretch of uninterrupted time, somehow it all slips away from me. I feel better by telling myself that I am reading useful knowledge about the industry and comforting words of wisdom by other struggling writers.
I. Must. Focus.
My writing time seems to keep shrinking. I keep thinking TOMORROW I'll find time but it seems everyone's pulling at me. UGH. I need a vacation day just to get away from all of them!
ReplyDeleteThis is so familiar! What I find helps is spending some time in the morning away from the computer. I'll go to the gym or the supermarket and keep my mind on what I'm going to write later. The more ideas I have before I sit down to write the less likely I am to get distracted. It really doesn't work for me to sit down at 9am and think OK, what shall I write?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how fast the time flys by! But it was a fun day. Although I did have a really bad headache by the end of it.....my punishment.
