Wednesday's Word

Today's word is Love. I don’t mean butterflies and daisies kind of love but the real, in your face, die for you kind of love.

Let’s take a look at this guy.

I love him more than anything. I mean that, more than anything in the world or any other person. I would sacrifice everything for him. Not just little things, like manicures so he can take Tai Kwon Do classes, or putting off that new dishwasher to pay his band fees (he better learn to play like a Jazz musician), but big things like my dreams or even my life (which we only think about after too many episodes of Criminal Minds).

All of that comes second to him and his future. How did my happiness become so dependent on his? Every good part of me (and my husband), including a pretty powerful cool gene (definitely from me), was somehow passed to him. He is astonishingly intelligent, surprisingly sensitive, and easily the funniest person I know.

Over the last year he has undergone a few changes (thinking it's cool to look like a punk).

Any show of emotion shames him. He hides in his room, on the phone or playing games unless forced out by hunger, which sometimes is frightening. If we were on a deserted island, we are pretty sure he would eat us.

Some days he is just a stranger with a familiar face. There are glimpses of that boy we knew, but more and more we realize he is changing into the man he will become.

No matter what the future holds, and for him it will be bright, I know that I am a better person for having known him…for having him inspire that gut wrenching, painful, die for you kind of love.

And that, my friends, is the Word.

  6. This is fabulous. I totally get it. I keep freaking out my daughter, telling her I can't wait to see what our college roommates will be like. ;) (She loves it when I do that. Hee!)

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
