Wednesday's Word: Nature

Today’s word is Nature. That can cover a lot of things but I want to focus on the path that nature takes and what happens when we try to change that too much.

Some people fight it to an extent that is frightening. There is even a name for it.
The Dorian Gray Syndrome.
This refers to the story of a good-looking young guy who views a painting of himself and wishes that it would grow old instead of him. All he had to do was give his soul away to win this fight against nature. Oscar Wilde wrote it in 1891 and called it ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’.

It isn’t too hard to spot those who have it.

I hope they are happy because at this point they have lost the original version and can’t go back.

Don’t be afraid to let nature take its course when it comes to your life and your stories. Sometimes the original version is the best. If you force it to be something it is not, you just might lose it forever.

And that, my friends, is the Word.

  3. Ooh wow, if those pictures aren't a wake up call to the world, I don't know what is! I actually hadn't heard of The Picture of Dorian Gray, but now I'm interested.

  5. I love this post. I hope they are happy, too.

I have to admit, even though I'm only 24, the aging process is enough to make you wish there was some way you could stop it. lol.

  8. It's so sad. Even people who are still young, early twenties, are doing that to themselves! I don't get it! Be happy with what you got! And someone give these people copies of Dorian Gray. They need it!

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
