Monday Must: Laurell K. Hamilton

LKH was in Houston yesterday for a book signing and I was there!

If you are not familiar with her work then let me warn you, her writing isn’t for the faint of heart. She is most famous for her Anita Blake, The Vampire Executioner series. Her vamps don’t sparkle, they aren’t innocent, and in fact most of them work at the local strip club. They also possess some of the most awesome powers you would never have thought of! Its ok, Laurell did that for us.

First book in series.

These books are also for adults only. Anita Blake not only dates the master vampire of St. Louis but also the local werewolf king…among others. It is rated R, fangs out and in your face from page one.

I am not sure if anyone else has managed to combine the genres as she has done. If you had to categorize her books they would be Paranormal-Mystery-Erotica-Romance-Horror fiction. Rock on, girl.

Without further ado, I give you Laurell K. Hamilton:

Who is now my new BFF:

Before you say anything…my hair did not look like that twenty minutes before when I went to the bathroom.  Also, I don’t normally look so frightened. I have come to the realization that if there is a bad angle to a picture…I manage to find it. We must accept the things we cannot change.

LKH was funny and real as she discussed her characters, how they spoke to her, and her plans for their future. It made me realize once again that we are all so similar, regardless of genre.
It took her two years to sell the first Anita Blake novel. She is now working on number 20.

It was an honor to meet you, LKH. May you never run out of words.

You look cute in that pic. If that's a bad photo, then you have nothing to worry about.
