Wednesday’s Word: Acronymania

It’s an acronym world, people. And if you don’t know the language you might feel a little lost. Behold the awesomeness of my cheat sheet:

• 5 – wait a few minutes to speak, a parent (or guardian) is in the room

• 55 – coast is clear, we can talk about anything

• AFK – Away From Keyboard

• BBL8R – Be Back later

• ASL A/S/L – What’s your Age, Sex and Location?

• BF – Boyfriend

• BFF – Best Friend Forever

• BFO – Blinding Flash of Obvious

• BRB – Be Right Back

• BTW – By The Way

• CTN – Can’t Talk Now

• CYA (C-ya) – See You Later

• FWIW – For What It’s Worth

• G2G – Got To Go

• GF – Girlfriend

• IDK -I Don’t Know

• IRL – In Real Life (offline, NOT on the computer)

• JK – Just Kidding

• L8R – Later

• LMA – Leave Me Alone

• OMG – Oh My God!

• PDA – Public Display of Affection

• PHAT – Pretty Hot And Tempting

• POP – Parent is On Prowl, can’t speak freely

• POS – Parent Over my Shoulder, so watch what you say

• PUA – Pick Up Artist

• ROTFL – Rolling On The Floor Laughing

• STFU – Shut the F… up! (Edited)

• THX – Thanks

• TMI – Too Much Information

• TTFN – TaTa For Now

• TTYL – Talk To You Later

• WTH – What the H…(edited)

Of course, this is just a short list. But if you’re ever confused you can always go HERE.

They can help you…and no one will make fun of how old and uncool you are.
Ok, they will...but you won’t be able to see them doing it.

I can remember when the only acronym we needed to know was BYOB.

LOL.

  5. This was actually really helpful! I have nieces and nephews who text me and half the time I have no idea what they're talking about.

    I'm that much cooler to a 12-year-old now.

  6. BFO - that's a new one! These abbreviations got so overused and annoying that most of the people I know (read: college demographic) have adopted them mockingly into everyday speech, so it's not that weird to have people say things like "tmi" out loud, or to abbreviate something like "obviously" to "obvy," chapel" to "chaps," etc.
