Believe the Dream

If you don’t believe, it won’t happen. If you give up, the dream will die. Can you live with that? Without dreams, our life is a barren field, a wasteland of regret, a dry desert of missed chances and forgotten hope. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty damn thirsty. As long as my imagination keeps pouring the drinks…I’m not giving up my seat at the bar.

I love conceptual metaphors.

Here are a few other guys who knew a little bit about believing the dream.

All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream.
Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1845) American poet, critic, and short-story writer.

Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.
Alexander Pope (1688-1744) English poet and satirist.

Our truest life is when we are in our dreams awake.
Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) American naturalist, poet and philosopher.

Man, alone, has the power to transform his thoughts into physical reality; man, alone, can dream and make his dreams come true.
Napoleon Hill (1883-1970) American speaker and motivational writer.

A daydream is a meal at which images are eaten. Some of us are gourmets, some gourmands, and a good many take their images precooked out of a can and swallow them down whole, absent-mindedly and with little relish.
W. H. Auden (1907-1973) English-born poet and man of letters.

Don’t keep it real, dream it that way.

  1. I dream about being chased by crocodiles a lot. I'm sure that's normal, though.

  3. What a fantastic post, Marsha! And I love Auden. :) I remember hearing a quote once, "Your castles are in the air. Good, that's where they should be. Now build the foundations under them." :)

  5. Beautiful post, Marsha. Thanks for bringing these to my attention!

I especially loved the Pope one. Not the Catholic guy, although I'm sure he's got some rockin' quotes of his own.

  6. So Marsha, you're that girl at the bar that never gets up? :)
Good quotes. I'm certainly a dreamer. Sometimes I wish I'd dream less and apply myself more.

@Bryan A friend of mine tried acid when he was younger. His trip was being chased by lions. We're talking about a 350 pound man running for his life half-naked around the neighborhood. What a visual.

  8. I loved that image as well.....Just to share with you folks, i have a new post today on Amish Stories from the Terre Hill days even that was just held in Lancaster Pennsylvania. It was a very hot day but i was able to get i think a few good images from this event. The town is populated with a mix of Amish and old order Mennonites which only adds to its charm. They even have what has become famous in Terre Hill their "outhouse race". The town sits on a hill so it overlooks Lancaster farmland in almost all directions. This is one of my favorite towns to visit because its free from commercialism, so if you are looking for a really all American kind of town with the added bonus of seeing its Amish and Mennonite residents at work and play, then this town is for you. Thanks folks. Richard from Amish Stories.
