Labor Day

This was supposed to post yesterday but something happened to the scheduling.  I blame Blogger.

The US Department of Labor explains this holiday as 'the first Monday in September, a creation of the labor movement and dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.'

It was actually created by workers within the labor unions who protested substandard working conditions and 12 hour workdays.

And not by Oscar Meyer in an effort to sell more hotdogs.

  1. LOL--Oscar Meyer still wins, I think: I know my family bought about a bazillion hotdogs for our get-together. Hope you had as good a weekend as I did!

  2. Wait, my husband is in a union and he still works twelve hour days. WTH?
Something smells like last week's hotdogs.

Hope you had a good, long, relaxing weekend.

  4. Ha, loved this post. It's so easy to forget the origins of something and lose the meaning. Glad you reminded us. :)

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
