Call Me Crazy

In case you didn’t realize it…today is Friday the 13th. To some of you this may just be another day but to roughly 17-21 million people living in the US this is very real phobia called Frigg triskaidekaphobia.

Wait.  Frigga what?

The most agreed upon origin of Friday the 13th is linked to the Last Supper and Judas Iscariot being the 13th person to arrive. Add that to Jesus dying on a Friday and...you get Friday the 13th.

Buildings without a 13th floor are pretty common but maybe you haven’t noticed there is also seldom a row 13 on planes and most hotels skip the number when it comes to rooms as well.  People tend to take this fear a little too far.

The truth of the matter is, there isn’t an increase in disasters on this day. It’s just a day like any other and the statistics are there to prove it. Don’t let a silly superstition keep you from enjoying one of the best days of the week.

Of course…if you happen to spill salt there isn’t any harm in tossing it over your left shoulder. And you might want to stay away from black cats.

I said don’t be silly not crazy.

  2. Well, I have to go to the dentist today because I cracked a crown and I'm about to look like a toothless hag, so I'd say my phobia is justified. Damn you Friday the 13th!

Have a great weekend!! If you survive until then. Bwahahahaha...

  3. That's why when I see 12 comments on your blog, I wait until some fool tempts fate by being number 13, only then can it be safe to spew my wisdom.

  4. I didn't notice till you mentioned it.

But really, it doesn't bother me like it does some:

President Franklin D. Roosevelt was quite fearful of the number 13, and he took great pains to avoid hosting a meal for a group of that size. “If he had a cancellation and it looked as if there might be 13 people to lunch, he invited his secretary to join them so there wouldn’t be 13."

  5. My father died on a Friday the 13th. We only realised when it came to wording the funeral notice in the paper, because they always put the day and the date.

I think the lady from the funeral place didn't really know how to take us when me, my sister and my mother all started to laugh when we realised. My father was the least superstitious person in the world, and always made fun of people who said Friday the 13th was unlucky, so the joke was on him, right?

An inappropriate sense of humour was his finest legacy. :)

  6. I was all nervous on Friday the 13th, because it was also my 13th move! I get all weird and superstitious over stuff like this, but nothing bad happened. It actually all went rather smoothly.

That being said, sorry I'm late catching up! Will shoot you an email this week. :)
