Wednesday's Word: Daycations

You know when you take a day off to sleep late, tackle that project you've been putting off (cleaning your teenage son's disgusting room, yes we know, he should be doing it himself but when you suspect things are moving in there even when he isn't home...you must take matters into your own hands) or just to lay around and watch daytime tv?

This is a Daycation.  Not exactly as good as a vacation but sometimes it has to do.  Also as great as it sounds...it can be really boring.  So, maybe you swore you were not going near a computer but caved late in the afternoon.  Because...daytime television sucks, you can only sleep for so long, and honestly how long does it take to clean a room anyway? (2 hours and 2 hefty trashbags)

Maybe daycations are only good in theory.  They are fun to dream about, but actually you may be happier when you're in a panic for time and you have fifty things to accomplish before you can fall into bed exhausted just to start it all over again the next day.

Daycations are like eating too much chocolate.  In the beginning it's all great but afterwards you are left feeling regretful and slightly ill.

And that, my friends, is the Word.

  1. You're clearly not a professional sleeper like me!

My daycations are usually spent chain reading though.

  2. Perfect word for it! I love daycations, no guilt. Like Claire, I tend to do some relaxing reading. Like you, I also tend to a chore I've haven't had time to tackle. And, oh, yes, I get that extra sleep:)

It helps to know I'm not just talking to myself.
